Invisalign Procedure

With the advancements in modern dentistry and the advent of practically invisible aligners known as Invisalign, the only one who has to know you’re striving toward a more magnificent smile is you! Our dentists providing Invisalign in San Mateo are experienced professionals in this advanced procedure.

What is Invisalign?

Using state of the art digital technology, the Invisalign process involves creating a comprehensive model of your mouth to generate a series of clear trays, made from medical-grade plastic.

The trays fit comfortably but snug atop your teeth and gradually work to guide your teeth into the desired shape. Whereas traditional braces offered a mouth full of shiny metal, the Invisalign trays are nearly undetectable. And unlike with braces, which used to require painful adjustment visits, with Invisalign, you will be provided with multiple aligners at once, so you can change your aligners at your convenience.

At Park Place Dental, we’re eager to assist you on your journey to the straight smile you deserve with our premier Invisalign process. Find out why our patients are calling our Invisalign trays the best in San Mateo.

Is Invisalign right for you?

You would be surprised by just how many issues Invisalign is capable of addressing and correcting. While Invisalign has become the premier solution for teenage patients who will never have to know the old ways of painful braces, it also can be useful for your entire family to achieve new goals for you smile. Visit Park Place Dental today for a consultation to learn how Invisalign can help you solve your issues.

The facts on Invisalign

Invisalign first came on the dental scene almost 20 years ago, and it has since revolutionized how many patients tackle orthodontics. Much has written about this innovative process. Here are a few common misunderstandings:

Does it hurt?

The straightening process can cause some discomfort or stress, but it is nothing compared to the old ways of solving these same issues. Also, while there is a short period of adjustment to the new feeling, our patients report that they adapt rather quickly.

Will it change how I talk?

While it may take a few days to adjust to the new sensation of wearing the trays, which may cause a temporary lisp, once you’ve adapted to the trays, you’ll barely notice their presence at all.

Is it more expensive than braces?

Invisalign is no more pricey than traditional braces and other similar treatment methods. Check with your insurance provider today, as Invisalign is commonly covered.

The Invisalign Process

When your first set of aligner trays are ready, you’re all set to begin your treatment! So to make the most of this process, it’s advisable to wear your aligning plates for 20-22 hours per day. You may take them out to eat, drink, and maintain your daily oral hygiene routines.

You may feel some slight discomfort at first as you begin to adjust to the trays. There may be a feeling or sense of your teeth being looser than usual. But rest assured, sensations like these are a perfectly normal aspect of the treatment. While your teeth gradually shift, your gums will heal and reform to each tooth. Should the discomfort feel abnormal or lingers too long, you may want to check with your Park Place dentists to confirm all is well.

Perhaps the biggest perk of Invisalign compared to braces is that you can eat and drink whatever you would like throughout the process. You should avoid drinking and smoking while you’re wearing the aligners to prevent staining. Take out your aligners before snacking or gum-chewing, but be sure to put them back in after every meal or break.

Each Invisalign plan is different, but you should be swapping out aligners about every 1-2 weeks. You will be provided with several trays at a time by your dentist, which allows you to swap them out at home at your convenience. Say goodbye to tedious and often painful adjustment appointments!

As each plan is different, every individual patient’s journey will be unique. That said, you can expect the Invisalign process to take around 12-18 months. Fortunately, you will begin noticing results within a few short weeks!

Post-Invisalign

Once your Invisalign treatment comes to a close, we may recommend that you use a retainer so as to keep your teeth from shifting back into their initial configuration. If so, there is no shortage of options available to you, many of which offer similarly invisible systems comparable to your aligners. When your teeth seem adjusted, you will be able to cut down on the usage of your retainer, limiting it to sleeping hours only.

Our premier experts for Invisalign in San Mateo are standing by to offer you the best maintenance possible to sustain and protect your brand new radiant smile.
